Aquataur 600 NO LONGER AVAILABLE
Here is a very new approach to radio sailing, the construction uses no keel ballast, just a centreboard, like the real dinghies. Only the manoeuvring of the helmsman is used to keep the boat upright. Even if you do capsize the boat can be easily righted, with a little practice.

A600 - is the result of a desire of designer Pat Clear to build a model of a sailing dinghy with as many of the features of a full size craft as possible. Following several years of development work this to a large extent has been achieved, the model, despite its small size behaving very much like a real dinghy. Several improvements have been made since the original was launched and the boat has an even better performance.
The ballasted crewman has a range of movement, which allows him to balance the boat on all points of sailing without the need for keel weight. The mechanism combines rotational and lateral movement. When first moved from the centre the movement is mainly rotational, this allows the operator to position the crewman inboard around the stem when broad reaching or running downwind. This combined with the lack of keel weight obviously helps keep the bow lifted, reducing the chance of burying it under water and also encourages planning. Movement becomes more lateral the further out the crewman travels, allowing for rapid and accurate positioning to balance the sideways forces on the sail when sailing into wind etc. The crewman is also used to right the boat following a capsize. His buoyancy combined with a pivoting feature on the mechanism, providing sufficient righting moment when immersed under water. Dimensions: length 600mm. beam 210mm.
A larger version of this craft is also available, being a quarter scale model of a full size high performance racing dinghy. Being larger than the A600 the mechanisms will be more sophisticated and the performance is stunning.
